How green are your products?

Increasing concern about climate change and global warming has created an awareness and use preferred green products. But you know how green are your products?

There are two levels to assess a green product - how it was made and its impact on the environment during and after use or application. A green product not only no danger to the environment or people, but also has direct and indirect positive effects on the environment.

As an example, green coatings have a direct benefit to the environment that the coating is water with low VOCs, no ozone depleting substances, and is non-toxic based biodegradable and Class A fire blankets, and should be so clean that it can be applied in the presence of pregnant women and children. The indirect environmental benefit is that a green coatings green eco-friendly distressed properties. If the property contains asbestos or lead-based painted surfaces, these surfaces can be sealed in place, like leaks, what sick building syndrome from mold and mildew.

A green industrial coating can also be a green roof as solar and heat reflective, UV, impact and abuse resistant making it last longer. These are the major benefits of a green coating that can recycle old dilapidated, distressed environmentally friendly building and green; minimize the production of unwanted waste which then must be transported and disposed of in our already overflowing landfills or waste storage facilities. These landfills and waste storage emit serious amounts of CO2 gases contribute to the greenhouse effect, global warming and climate change.

The quality and durability of the product is also important to ensure that the environmental benefits in the long run. A product that will produce a sustainable, long-term and is renewable requires fewer resources and reducing the environmental impact. It is a very green coating that can rejuvenate a surface that is at the end of their life cycle, avoiding removal and replacement. A perfect example is roofing that at the end of its life cycle is usually torn down and replaced. With the right renewable green coating a roof can be overcoated now, take what is good about the existing roof as the structural strength and insulation and roof extension to use for an extended period of time.

A green coating should not require solvent-based cleaners should clean up with water instead. Solvent-based cleaners are dangerous to the environment and must be properly handled and disposed of during and after use. Containers, buckets, pails and drums for storage and transportation of products should also recyclable materials which require little energy to turn out to be.

How can you be sure that green claims are true? A green product has tests and approvals by independent third parties. So the next time you choose a green product, make sure it is not only green, but continue to be made in the use or application and throughout the life cycle green. And remember, "Do not Replace, Just Encase"...
